 December 2011 Report

Dear Pastor and Brethren:

Difficult Month

The uncertainty of life greatly demonstrated itself when quite suddenly and without any expectation the wife of one of our district court judges died. She was working in her garden and told the gardener that she was tired and was going to lie down on the sofa and rest. She went into the house and didn't come out again. The gardener went in to check on her and found her without life lying on the sofa. I tell you this because I often work with this judge with respect to the Latino men in the court system. When news came of her death, Roxanne and I were assisting an attorney with a difficult adoption of a Mexican baby boy by an American couple from the Atlanta area. We quickly terminated our session with the attorney and went to see if we could minister to the judge. His office was already filled with the rest of the judges and other attorneys. We were kindly received and went back to see the judge. He was heartbroken, of course, and confused. We spoke to him briefly and told him we would pray for him. He told us that we would have to take care of that for him because he could not. The judge is a non-religious man, and his wife was a Christian Science adept. Please pray for us in relationship to how we might have the opportunity to reach some of these people with the gospel.

Hospital Visit

Early Saturday morning, December 10th, I asked Roxanne to take me to the emergency room due to heavy chest pain. I had been feeling tired and lacking energy with some unusual pain in my left chest for about five days previous. I spent the day and Saturday night in the hospital for testing, being released on Sunday at 11:00 AM. The doctor diagnosed me as having "shingles." I was given an antiviral medication and prednisone and sent home. Thank the Lord it was not another heart attack. It got worse and has taken several weeks to get rid of the annoying weakness and distracting pain. At this writing, I am almost completely recovered and returning to my normal activities. Thanks for your prayers!

Old Age

I have officially arrived at the old age mark. I turned sixty-five on Dec. 22, and have entered into the Medicare system regrettably because it is costing me another $115.00 per month. We are trusting the Lord to provide as He always has done. Thank you all who sent cards and love offerings. We anticipate serving the Lord with joy, by His grace, in the coming new year

By His grace and in gratitude
