 July 2010 Report

Dear Pastor and Brethren:

During the first two weeks of July we dealt with eleven different Mexican people concerning their need for a personal saving relationship with the Lord through personal contact, literature, and/or personal witnessing. Five of these contacts were through the jail ministry and the rest were during our daily efforts to reach them. Additionally during these two weeks, we also began preparing for our trip to Idaho to attend our home church's camp. It had been several years since being at our home church and Pastor Oldfield invited me to help him with the preaching by preaching the Sunday services before and after camp week. The prospects of seeing our brethren and renewing our acquaintance with them and preaching to them highly motivated me to get better as fast as possible for such an event. I saw my doctor on July 13th and July 17th we left for Idaho.

Idaho Trip

The next day being Sunday we attended "church," in Oakley, Ks., at Sunrise Baptist Church where the pastor exhausted his preaching time with funny stories and anecdotes to reinforce his attempts to motivate his people to serve the Lord more. Very little of the Word of God was preached and it saddened me to see all those people wasting their time being entertained and motivated superficially to serve the Lord. Roxanne and I continued our traveling until we arrived Friday afternoon at our Pastor's home. We rested Saturday and prepared for the following Lord's day. It was a great joy to see our brethren once again on Sunday and the Lord gave me great liberty to preach during both the morning and evening services. Monday was the first day of camp and being worn out from traveling and preaching we took our time getting to the camping area at the "buttonhook" of Lake Pend Oreille in Northern Idaho. This was a yearly family camp with devotions conducted every evening by Pastor Oldfield and group activities during the morning. Roxanne and I stayed at the lovely home of the Oldfield's and commuted with Sis. Judy Oldfield daily to the camp ground and returned each evening. It was a joyous time of rest, interaction with our brethren, and spiritual refreshing on the greatness of the Lord with respect to His great creation and creative powers. Pastor Oldfield preached every evening on the theme of "water," and demonstrated the creative power of the Lord in this wonderful substance that we all take for granted. I was able to present some of my songs and choruses each evening before the message, and they were well received -- a special blessing to me. Camp broke up on Friday morning and everyone had a good time, especially Roxanne and me. Sunday came and once again the Lord blessed me with liberty to play the piano and preach His Word. Roxanne and I give a special "Thank you," to Pastor Oldfield and his family for their excellent company and godly hospitality during the entire week and to our brethren for making this wonderful trip possible.

By His grace and in gratitude
